Decreasing Estate Tax Liability - Various Techniques
Saturday, 19 March 2011 05:11

People with large estates have several options to minimize their estate tax liability.  Remember, though, the exemption, currently five million dollars, is set to decrease to one million dollars in 2013.  That creates a need for estate tax planning for anyone who has not included death among their goals for the next two years.  Of course, estate tax is only one reason to plan your estate.  People with estates of any size can plan for their disability and death, provisions for their loved ones who survive them, avoidance of probate, final arrangements, etc.

Methods of Distribution
Sunday, 13 March 2011 06:37

Distributions of your assets, after your death, can be made in several ways.  The tricky part is to balance access your beneficiaries will have to the money against protections provided.  The article linked below explains some methods of distribution ranging from "outright," which offers immediate and unfettered access with no protections, to that of a lifetime protective trust.  Very often, people will want to allow access for everything the beneficiary needs, but not necessarily everything they want.  That way, the inheritance can be preserved to last a long time. Protection from creditors, predators, divorce, remarriage, bankruptcy and lawsuits is possible with proper planning.  The article here, describes four methods - outright, convenience trust, credit shelter trust and QTIP trust.
